About Brian

My love for photography began when I picked up a Pentax K1000 in a camera shop at 11 years old. Growing up in Jackson, Michigan I consumed endless copies of Life Magazine, fascinated by journalistic portrait and landscape photography. The Pentax came in handy when I shot for my high school yearbook and college newspaper.

Taking Pulitzer Prize winning photographer, John H. White’s, photo journalism class at Columbia College inspired me to pursue photography as a career. He said, “Take the lens cap off your camera and never use it again.” A camera is with me at all times.

I have been a professional photographer for close to 30 years, starting Brian McConkey Photography in 1992 doing actor headshots. I started to master my lighting from shooting black & white photography for over 10 years before changing to digital photography.

My goal as a photographer is to create a relaxed, fun and professional environment so you’re comfortable. This results in bringing out your unique personality that I hope to capture in that moment where I see something interesting going on in your eyes and facial expression.

My photography motto has always been “Everybody needs a headshot.” And in today’s ever changing marketing and tech savvy world, it’s true. Everybody does need a professional headshot and professional photos to capture those memorable events you’ll want to look back on.

I have branched out from actor headshots to corporate headshots and event photography including weddings and mitzvahs to family & kids portraits and travel photography

In my free time I love to play guitar, unicycle, travel and spend time with my wife, two sons and my dog.
